The 24-year-old woman, her partner and their one-year-old child were driving south from the airport and collided with a parked truck as they entered a rest area. The woman in the passenger seat died at the scene of the accident, while the man at the wheel was seriously injured.
The one-year-old child was also injured, according to the police. They assume that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The man was taken to Trento hospital with serious injuries. Further information on the identity of the victim and the injured was not yet available.
The motorway remained closed for the duration of the rescue work. This resulted in long traffic jams between Bolzano South and Rovereto North.
