Robert Downey Jr. returns to Marvel cinema

After Robert Downey Jr. laid his Marvel character Iron Man to rest in the 2019 blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame,” he retired from comic book cinema. Now the 59-year-old is ending it: Marvel cinema’s highest-grossing star will return as the villain Doctor Doom for the two-part adaptation of “Fantastic Four.” “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2026 and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027.

In addition, 82-year-old Harrison Ford will be seen as “Red Hulk” in the new “Captain America” film.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced this with the two stars at the Comic Con in San Diego.
