Of the four Creoles who competed, three were in the fencing discipline in the individual sword category: Gabriel Lugo, Rubén and Francisco Limardo.

Rubén Limardo fell 10 to 15 in the 32-man draw against Hungarian Tibor Andrasfi, thus saying goodbye to individual epee competitions.

The 2012 London Olympic champion will, however, be able to compete in the team event on 2 August.

Venezuelan fencer Gabriel Lugo advanced to the round of 16 after beating Hungarian Mate Tamas Koch, which allowed him to advance to the round of 16.

However, in the second fight Lugo fell in sudden death against the Hungarian Tibor Andrasfi with a final score of 12 to 13.

Francisco Limardo also failed to make it past the round of 32 at the Paris 2024 Olympics, losing to China’s Zijie Wang, 15 to 12 in the individual épée.

The other Venezuelan athlete who participated in the competitions on July 28 was swimmer María Yegres, who competed in the women’s 200-meter freestyle category at the Défense Arena complex in Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris.

Yegres finished 20th in the overall standings with a time of 2:00.66, which meant she was eliminated from the Paris 2024 competition, according to the COV.
