Kochi, IANS. The Kerala High Court has delivered a significant ruling in a case of misconduct involving a female judge. The court has directed 28 lawyers from the Kottayam Bar Association to provide free legal aid to the poor and needy for six months in order to obtain relief from contempt of court proceedings. The court stated that merely apologizing would not be sufficient.
‘Simply apologizing will not suffice’
These lawyers had raised derogatory slogans against the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kottayam last year. The High Court remarked, “This court believes that the respondents cannot escape this incident merely by asking for forgiveness.”
The court instructed the 28 lawyers to provide free legal assistance to the poor and needy through the District Legal Services Authority, Kottayam. It is noteworthy that this incident occurred in November last year involving Chief Judicial Magistrate V. Sethumohan. The lawyers had raised slogans in court regarding the registration of a cheating case against one of their colleagues. The High Court had issued a contempt notice to these lawyers based on a report of the incident.
