Yak, which lives in the mountains for 10 months out of 12 months, also known as the king of the mountains, used to be found in abundance in Gilgit-Baltistan but now its breeding population is declining.

Ghulam Nabi from Sadpara village in Gilgit-Baltistan keeps eight yaks in his house.
Ghulam Nabi started rearing two male and female yaks 10 years ago, now he has eight male and female yaks.
They also have two more yaks of the village which they take care of themselves.
Ghulam Nabi said that the price of a yak is currently between two and a half to three lakh rupees, while during Eid Qurban, its price goes up to more than four lakh.
