The “easy” decision, the salary and interest from Maccabi Haifa: behind the signing of Shagib Yehezkel at Maccabi Tel Aviv

The deal of Shagib Yehezkel to Maccabi Tel Aviv was agreed in principle about a month ago. In a conversation between CEO Ben Mansford and the player’s representatives, it was made clear that the yellow club will stand behind him in any ruling that will be accepted by UEFA in the arbitration against Turkish Antalyaspor. In addition, it was agreed that the player will receive about 400 thousand net euros as a base salary, when together with various bonuses and a signing bonus, he will receive no less than he earned during his time in Turkey.

Until about a month ago, Maccabi Haifa also looked into the possibility of bringing Yehezkel. Coach Barak Becher put his name on the table, but the player’s desire was also decisive and for him the priority was to join the ranks of the champion.

Israel Hayom learned that senior players at Maccabi Tel Aviv talked to Yehezkel even before he signed with the club. The desire to have a good European season and win a second championship in a row also caused stars like Dor Peretz and Eran Zahavi to convince their friend in the Israeli national team to sign in yellow.

At the same time, people around the actor say that apart from their friendship, no persuasion was really needed. “The decision to sign with Maccabi Tel Aviv was easy and was made without much hesitation,” said Yehezkel’s associates, “he knows the club, its audience and is aware of the great professional need for a player in his position. This also had a big impact on the decision.”

Until now Yezekiel trained alone, but he did so intensively, usually with two training sessions a day. In the medical tests he passed, it became clear that he is in excellent physical shape and for coach Jarko Laztic, this is good news, since the winger who can play both as a defender and in the midfield will be at his disposal already in the upcoming games in Europe.
