Contact between Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and Iranian Foreign Minister, agreement to end tension

Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and Iranian Foreign Minister met again in which it was agreed to end the tension between the two countries. In this regard, other matters will be decided by the foreign ministries of both countries through mutual consultation, while the foreign ministers have emphasized mutual respect, peace and security, regional peace and stable relations.

According to diplomatic sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdul Hayan contacted Jalil Abbas Jilani and the foreign ministers agreed to de-escalate tensions. Apart from this, the foreign ministers also considered the restoration of mutual diplomatic relations.

Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani expressed Pakistan’s willingness to work with Iran on all issues based on the spirit of mutual trust and cooperation and emphasized the need for close cooperation on security issues.

Background of Pak-Iran tension

It should be noted that on January 16, Pakistan’s airspace was violated unprovoked by Iran, in which 2 innocent children were killed and 3 girls were injured. After the aforementioned incident, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani contacted his Iranian counterpart on January 17, in which he made it clear to his Iranian counterpart that he reserves the right to respond to Iranian aggression on January 16.

Later, on January 18, Pakistan responded to Iran’s missile attack by targeting terrorist hideouts in Sistan and Balochistan province of Iran. The intelligence-based operation dubbed “Marg Bar Sarmchar” killed several terrorists, but the Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan did not target any civilian or Iranian installations in retaliation.

The latest development in the context of political tension between the two countries is that the Foreign Office has confirmed the exchange of positive messages between the officials of Pakistan and Iran.
