The Yucatan Lions secure the series

It would be great if the Lions hit the road tomorrow playing .500 at home.

It would also be great if they showed competitive teams the game they are showing against the Campeche Pirates, whom they beat again last night, 7-1, at the “Víctor Cervera Pacheco” Stadium in Kanasín.

The clamor of the fans to see them play well and win was noticeable. But it must be recognized that the rival in this series has absolutely nothing and the particular record of this year says it: eight games, eight victories for the kings of the jungle.

Elián Leyva pitched more than three innings for the first time since returning from a fatigue-related layoff and covered five innings in total without complications (five hits, no walks and seven strikeouts). And the four relievers played their assigned roles perfectly. Alex Tovalín, who had failed in the final innings, was used for the sixth and looked in tune; Michaelk Boyle dispatched the seventh in three, Chester Pimentel got the eighth in 1-2-3 and Jesús Cruz, another who was between blue and good nights, struck out all three in the ninth.

Campeche fights, but can’t hold out. They sent Octavio Acosta to the mound with a negative record of 0-7 and the Lions, little by little, started attacking them. Western Rivas drove in the game-winning run in the fourth with a single and, after Campeche tied the game in the fifth, in the closing inning, Tomo Otosaka received a walk, Norberto Obeso hit a single and, while the runners were leaving in double steal, Taylor Motter hit a ball to lose it in the darkness of the patio of the bandshell. A 4-1 advantage from which the Pirates did not react.

Motter has eight homers and 21 RBIs (yesterday there were four), being the most productive of the long-haired sluggers in the last month. Yadir Drake drove in two for the cause.

Today Yucatan is going for its 17th victory of the year at home (it has 17 losses), hoping, finally, to have at least .500 in wins and losses playing at “Panucho Park”. Francisco Haro will go for the sweep.— Gaspar Silveira
