The Indonesian badminton team will start competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Four Indonesian representatives will be in action on the first day of the badminton competition at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Paris, Saturday (27/7) WIB.
PBSI Binpres Head Ricky Soebagdja emphasized that the team is ready to fight to pass the first test. The condition of the athletes, said Ricky, is good and ready to compete. They can maintain their performance after conducting a training camp in Chambly.
“What they have gained from training or matches is not just the last one or two months but for years. This is the time to prove it at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Ricky through a PBSI statement, Friday (26/7).
Ricky also ensured that the preparations made were maximal in all aspects, both technical and non-technical. It is hoped that the Red and White badminton players can get through the tension that often occurs in the first match.
“There will definitely be tension and pressure in the first match, but hopefully they can handle it. One way is to play with confidence,” added Ricky.
In the opening match of the group stage, Indonesian women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti will appear first. Apriyani/Fadia who are in Group A will face the Japanese pair, Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara.

Following Apriyani/Fadia, the pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto will compete in the men’s doubles Group C. The 2024 All England champions will face German representatives, Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel.
Mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari will also battle it out against South Korean representatives, Kim Won-ho/Jeong na-eun.
In the men’s singles sector, Jonatan Christie will appear to start the first match of Group L. Jojo, Jonatan’s nickname, will face Belgian player, Julien Carraggi. The first match will be crucial because Jonatan in Group L will also face players such as Lakshya Sen from India and host representative Toma Junior Popov.

In the group stage, for the doubles sector only the top two pairs in the standings will advance to the knockout stage. As for the singles only the group winners advance to the next round.
The next day or Sunday (28/7) WIB, Apriyani/Fadia will play their second match against the tough opponent, the first seed Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan (China). No doubt, the first match against the Japanese pair will be crucial for Apriyani/Fadia before facing Chen/Jia.
On the second day, Rinov/Pitha will also compete against the silver medalists from Tokyo 2020, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong.
In the men’s singles sector, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will play the first match in Group H against the United States representative Howard Shu. In the women’s singles, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung starts Group G against the Ukrainian representative, Polina Buhrova. (Z-6)
