GIANMARCO Tamberi, Italy’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, initially had the best moments of his life as he led his country in the pouring rain.

However, the happy atmosphere soon changed when he realized his wedding ring was missing.

As Tamberi enthusiastically waved the Italian flag, he found that his wedding ring had fallen from his finger and fallen into the Seine River.

In his statement on Instagram, Tamberi expressed his regret to his wife.

“I’m sorry honey, I’m so sorry,” wrote Gianmarco Tamberi.

“Too much water, too many pounds lost in the last few months, or maybe the sheer excitement of what we were doing. Maybe all three, but I definitely felt the ring go, saw it fly… followed it with my eyes until I saw it bounce in the boat,” he explained.

“The ring will forever be at the bottom of the river in this city of love. May this be a good omen to come home with more gold medals.”

Luckily, his wife could see the funny side of the incident.

“Only you could turn something like this into something romantic,” she commented on Tamberi’s Instagram post.

Tamberi is known for being the center of attention at the Olympics. At the Tokyo Games, he gained media attention after sharing the high jump gold medal with Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim. (CNN/Z-10)
