Breakthrough in the Disappearance of 15-Year-Old Lina as Her DNA is Found in Stolen Car in Southern France

The car in which the DNA of Lina, a 15-year-old girl who went missing in September 2023 in Alsace, was found has been discovered in southern France, a source close to the case reported on Saturday, July 27.

There have been no arrests or police custody, according to this source. After ten months of investigation, the public prosecutor of Strasbourg, Yolande Renzi, announced on Friday, July 26, a “major breakthrough” in the case following the detection of Lina’s “genetic profile” in a stolen car.

This vehicle was being sought by investigators who had determined it was located not far from where Lina vanished last September.

The car has been sent to the National Gendarmerie Criminal Research Institute (IRCGN), where it was established that Lina had been inside.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances under which she got into this vehicle,” the prosecutor emphasized on Friday.

The 15-year-old girl disappeared on September 23, 2023, late in the morning after leaving her home in Plaine (Bas-Rhin) to go to the train station in Saint-Blaise-la-Roche, about three kilometers away. No trace of the young girl had been found until now.

“This is a major breakthrough,” said Me Matthieu Airoldi, lawyer for Fanny Groll, Lina’s mother, to AFP on Saturday. “I trust the investigation for what comes next,” he added. “There is hope of locating Lina, but there are so many questions behind that: where, when, how…” said Marylène Correia, lawyer for Olivier Delsarte, Lina’s father, to AFP on Friday. “We will be able to move forward, that is certain, but in Mr. Delsarte’s mind, for the moment, there are many questions,” she added.
