UN food program forced to reduce emergency aid to families in Gaza

– Food stocks and humanitarian supplies in central and southern Gaza are very limited, and hardly any new supplies are coming in, writes the UN in a post on X.

The aid organization is thus forced to reduce the emergency aid they provide to families in this part of the Gaza Strip, so that they have the capacity to help new internally displaced persons who come from other war-torn areas in the enclave.

Eleven independent UN experts recently accused Israel of waging “a targeted hunger campaign” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. UN special rapporteur for the right to food, Michael Fakhri , The UN’s special rapporteur for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese and The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, Paula Gaviria Betancur, were among those who signed the announcement.

The UN has not formally declared a famine in Gaza, but the experts have concluded that there is no doubt “that famine has spread from northern Gaza to the central and southern areas.” They indicate that at least 34 Palestinians have died of malnutrition since October, the majority of them children.
