- The opening ceremony of the Olympic competition took place with a parade of boats on the Seine River
More than 30 athletes will represent Venezuela at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an Olympic competition that will take place in France from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
The opening ceremony began on July 26 with a parade of boats along the River Seine, the first time the event has been held outside a stadium.
“We are very happy and excited about all the delegations in their traditional costumes. We are ready and prepared,” said Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas on her way to the Olympic village.

Venezuela’s participation in the 2024 Olympic Games
The Venezuelan delegation waves the country’s flag as it passes along the Seine River during the opening parade. In a video shared by the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), the athletes can be seen boarding the boat that takes them on the journey along the river.
The athletes who will represent the country in the Olympic competition were seen on the boat. Among them were Douglas Gómez, Leonel Martinez, Joselyn Brea, José Maite, Jesús Cova, Katherine Paredes, Elvismar Rodríguez, Anriquelis Barrios and Julio Mayora. The last two were in charge of carrying the tricolor flag.

Although Yulimar Rojas was at the event, she could not carry the flag because she will not participate as an active athlete in the Olympic event due to her injury.
The athletes wore a blue uniform during the opening ceremony, which was created by designer Raenrra. It is a representation of the liqui liqui, a typical garment from the plains.
Because it rained during the opening ceremony, some athletes and part of the delegation teams wore raincoats. However, by the time it was Venezuela’s turn, the weather had improved.
The Venezuelan delegation ranked 196th among the participating delegations and was one of the last countries to march in the opening ceremony, after Vanuatu.
Venezuelan delegation
The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) reported in mid-July that Venezuela had already formally registered its name in Paris 2024 with the completion of the registration meeting (DRM, delegation register meetingfor its acronym in English)
“100 people will make up the Venezuelan Delegation to Paris 2024, including athletes, officials, mission leaders, medical service, dignitaries, Olympic family, equestrian support staff, drivers and administration,” he explained.
In total, 33 athletes are representing Venezuela in the Olympic competition in 11 sports: athletics, boxing, cycling, water sports, equestrian, fencing, judo, weightlifting, wrestling, taekwondo and shooting.
According to the COV statement, the Mission Headquarters headed by Franklin Cardillo, treasurer of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee and Luis Seijas, attaché Olympic, received the space for the delegation with accommodation for 60 people, who will be located in building B6.
The first athletes to arrive in Paris were the members of the shooting team, Leonel Martínez, Douglas Gómez and Ulises Gómez, who were based at the sub-headquarters of this sport in Chateauroux, about two hours by train from Paris.
Paris 2024 Olympic Games
The Olympic Games will involve 206 Olympic Committees representing at least 10,500 athletes in 32 sports. During the competition, at least 329 events will be held in 762 sessions.
This is the third time that Paris has hosted the Olympic Games, having hosted the 1900 and 1924 editions. The first lasted five months (from May 14 to October 28).
Paris is the second city, after London (England), to have hosted three editions of this Olympic competition. However, it was in the French city that an Olympic village was built for the athletes for the first time, and it was also where opening and closing ceremonies were introduced.
