Peace Now: Netanyahu government exploited October 7 to create new facts in the West Bank

The organization said in a statement that the Israeli government has accelerated the process of annexing lands to thwart the opportunity for peace between Palestinians and Israelis, and has established at least 25 new settlement outposts in the West Bank.

The organization revealed that Netanyahu’s government declared about 24,193 dunams in the West Bank as state land.

The International Court of Justice stated last week that Israel’s settlement policies in the Palestinian territories violate international law and constitute permanent annexation.

During a session to announce its advisory opinion on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, it stated that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is illegal and that it is obligated to end its presence there as soon as possible.

She pointed out that Israel has accelerated the establishment of new settlements in the West Bank, reaching more than 24,000 settlement units, stressing that it must stop all new settlement activities.

The International Court of Justice stressed that it is not convinced that the expansion of the application of Israeli law in the West Bank and Jerusalem is justified.

In its advisory opinion, it stated that Israel imposed its authority as an occupying power in a manner contrary to Articles 53 and 64 of the Geneva Convention.

She also stated that the displacement of the inhabitants of the occupied territories from their lands was forced, which is in violation of Israel’s obligations, and she said that the confiscation of Palestinian property by settlers is in violation of Israel’s international obligations.
