Fortunately, a passer-by took action when he discovered on Friday afternoon that there was smoke coming out of the window of the villa with several apartments on Bredgade in Hurup Thy, which he himself rents out.
– He rushes up and knocks on both doors, says Troels Guldbrandsen, head of operations at North Jutland Emergency Services.
It turned out to be the right decision.
A single resident was at home in one of the villa’s apartments and had not himself discovered that a fire had broken out in another apartment in the same building. The resident got out of the apartment safely.
That is why there were no people in the building when North Jutland’s emergency services and Central and West Jutland’s police arrived at the address.
The apartment in which the fire started is now uninhabitable, according to the incident leader.
– It is relatively concentrated in one room, but there is smoke damage throughout one apartment, and there is a slight smell of smoke in the other, says Troels Guldbrandsen.
The incident leader does not know whether the landlord came by by chance or whether he lives nearby.
Remember the smoke alarm
The emergency services have now left the address, as have the Central and West Jutland Police.
– We have found that it is probably due to an electrical installation, says chief of duty at the Central and West Jutland Police, Jeppe Holgersen.
No one was injured in the fire.
Although there was a smoke alarm in the apartment, incident leader Troels Guldbrandsen sees the fire as an opportunity to remind citizens of the importance of a smoke alarm.
On Nordjyllands Beredskab’s website, you can read where in your home the smoke alarms should be placed and how often they should be tested, replaced and cleaned.
The police received the report at 3:47 p.m.
