The Cuban parliament has approved a law that aims to revolutionize fishing on the island. Cubans will now be able to build and register their own boats, as well as import more powerful engines. What kind of boat engines will now be allowed to be imported under this new law?
This measure, which responds to a long-standing popular demand, would mark a before and after for the private fishing sector, according to the government. The mere fact of importing more powerful boat engines is already a step forward, more than the usual fears of illegal maritime departures from the country.
The report indicates that, in order to increase fishing production, the government encouraged the construction and repair of vessels by specialized entities for private individuals, despite the risks of encouraging illegal emigration by sea.
In addition, it will allow individuals to build boats and register them in their name, as well as import engines of up to 60 HP for non-commercial purposes.
Importing boat engines to Cuba. Prices.
What is the price of these engines? From Miami, they are available on platforms such as Amazon or from leading manufacturers such as Golden Motor, and they range from 1,400 US dollars. From Spain, for example, a Parsun engine, 60 HP – ELEC/LARGO EFI, can cost more than 6 thousand euros.
“Design and quality are the result of the 50hp and 60hp mid-range models. The Delphi electronic management system together with a 996c3 4-cylinder SOCH engine block guarantee total reliability. The electronic fuel injection system (EFI) regulates consumption at all times, offering power and acceleration when necessary and under any circumstances,” they say about this type.
But the variety of engines and prices are enormous. There are others from the Yamaha brand, at just over 3 thousand euros, from Spain. Some used from Canada, are cheaper and it is also expected that options will soon appear in online stores in foreign currency for this purpose.
