DIMEA has been fighting against profiteering for months, which in 2023 carried out 25,267 inspections, imposing 1,865 fines totaling 13.41 million euros.
In order to combat the phenomena of profiteering and unjustified price increases, the government’s package of measures focuses on the de-escalation of prices in basic consumer goods.
DIMEA’s inspections of companies that sell baby milk are in full progress, with the possibility of severe fines being imposed in the event that profiteering is found.

“The collection of the fines is indisputable, the controls are daily and thorough throughout the market and, if necessary, additional measures will be taken for any product categories whose prices in Greece are found to be unreasonably high” said Development Minister Kostas Skrekas.
The imprint of the government’s new measures will be seen in the next period in the consumer basket with initiatives that include permanent price reductions of up to 20%.
