The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement “the Kingdom’s welcome of the statement issued by the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, regarding the agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis on measures to de-escalate the situation regarding the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines.”

The Foreign Ministry affirmed its “support for efforts aimed at achieving peace and security in Yemen and its brotherly people,” noting its “continued support for Yemen, its government and its brotherly people, and its constant keenness to encourage efforts to reduce escalation and maintain calm.”

The Foreign Ministry expressed its hope that “this agreement will contribute to the Yemeni parties sitting at the dialogue table under the auspices of the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues and in a way that contributes to reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis within the framework of the roadmap to support the peace process in Yemen.”

On Tuesday, Grundberg stated that the Yemeni government and the Houthis had agreed on measures to stop the escalation in the “banking and air transport sectors.”

A statement issued by the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen said, “On July 22, the Yemeni government and the Houthi movement informed the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, that they had agreed on several measures to de-escalate the situation regarding the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines, according to a written text received by the UN Envoy from the two parties, which includes four points.

Grundberg pointed to “the important role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in reaching this agreement.”
