Sectur will have a mobile application for travelers

MEXICO CITY (EFE).— The Mexican government yesterday launched the digital platform and mobile application of the National Tourism Registry (RNT) that will serve visitors as a public catalog of tourism service providers in the country.

In a statement, the federal Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, said that it will also allow for the provision of certainty and security in the tourist services offered to national and foreign visitors.

The official recalled that the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) under his charge is responsible for issuing certificates that accredit the registered service provider companies, whether they are hotels, travel agencies, food and beverage establishments, car rental companies, golf courses, spas, theme parks, spas, tour operators, timeshares, tourist guides and more.

He added that this platform meets a strong demand from the tourism sector and thus fulfills a commitment made to bring the Sectur into the digital era.

Regarding the platform, the official explained that it presents general information about registered tourism service providers; their behavior in the commercial bureau of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco); and their status before the Tax Administration Service (SAT).

He also expressed his hope that this system could significantly reduce commercial fraud affecting the tourism sector, especially travel agencies.

“‘Pirate’ agencies are an evil that we must eradicate because they damage the image of our tourism activity. We have committed ourselves to it, and this is one way of doing it. We will apply the full force of the law to agencies that are not registered with the RNT and advertise on the Internet. Enough fraud!” he stressed.

Torruco added that at the beginning of the current administration, in 2018, Sectur received the RNT with 19,900 registered tourism service providers and after almost six years, it now has 44,217 registrations, an increase of 122%.

He recalled that the last business census reported 68,401 economic units linked to the tourism sector, so the expectation at the end of the current administration is to have at least 55,000 active tourism service providers, that is, 80.4% of the country’s total tourism offering.

For his part, the head of the Sectur Information and Monitoring Unit, Alejandro Aguilera Gómez, said that the new RNT digital platform allows for the registration and updating of tourism service providers in an agile and secure manner. In addition, he said that it facilitates procedures and reduces bureaucratic times.
