The boy from the Linz-Land district was driving on Scharnsteinerstrasse from Gmunden towards Gschwandt. He entered the Baumgarten roundabout far too fast and lost control of his vehicle.
He came off the road and was thrown into the ditch directly after the roundabout. A street lamp was also knocked over.
The Gmunden fire department had to recover the damaged car using a crane. The 17-year-old driver and his 19-year-old passenger were taken to Vöcklabruck Hospital with minor injuries.
