Titti Sjöblom’s tribute to mother Alice Babs in the all-song

This year Alice Babs would have turned 100 years old. That department paid tribute to the jazz singer who left her earthly life ten years ago in “Allsång på Skansen”.

When daughter Titti Sjöblom brought out the classic “Swing it magistern”, no one in the audience could sit still.

When it was time to end the tribute, Titti started with a song close to her heart – for a special reason.

On Tuesday, it was once again time for an evening on the Solliden stage in “Allsång på Skansen” with Pernilla wahlgren as choir leader.

The guests were the country artist Maja Francisthe hard rock band Smash into piecesthe popular duo Norlie and KKV and the singer Swea. No number was the same, but it was one performance that really stood out during the evening.

Alice Bab’s daughter Titti Sjöblom delivers – warm tribute to her mother

It was a special evening in the sing-along as it was also a tribute to the jazz singer Alice Babs which this year had turned 100 years old.

Therefore, her daughter Titti Sjöblom also guested on the program together with her Linda Pettersson and Ehrling Eliasson.

When Pernilla asks Titti what she has chosen for the sing-along song, she announces her obvious but brilliant one

– I have of course chosen my mother’s big breakthrough song, a song and a film with the same name “Swing it magistern” which created Babs fever. The young people cheered and the parent generation raged. This was 1940 and mother was only 16 years old, Titti tells the all-singing audience.

And when she gets going, it’s like Alice Babs comes to life again in her 74-year-old daughter. Titti offered jazz and entertainment of the highest class and got large parts of the audience swaying to the music.

After the classy number, Titti went up to the Solliden stage again and Pernilla asked the question if she thought Alice saw the number from heaven.

Then Titti Sjöblom gave a touching answer about mother Alice Babs.

– Guaranteed, she can’t resist something like this, said Titti and looked up at the sky.

Furthermore, the tribute offered fine singing from Linda Pettersson, who added a medley consisting of three of Alice Bab’s own jazzy compositions, “Strange visitor”, “Hodgy”, and “Babsie”.

The tribute ended with the trio Titti Sjöblom, Linda Pettersson and Ehrling Eliasson’s interpretation of “In a mellow tone” by Milt Gibler and Duke Ellington.

And it is easy to understand why Titti chose that one as the ending. It is one of the few Ellington songs that Titti was able to teach his mother, before Alice’s last performance ever.

– This one I taught my mother, she hasn’t sung all the Ellington songs. Mom practiced Ehrling’s arrangement on this particular one, in the program we did with Mom the very last time she was on stage, in 2004, has Titti previously told.

What a fantastic tribute to Alice Babs.
