A wonderful anniversary screening for the 20th anniversary of the movie “Sideways”, took place in the beautiful mountain village of Paraskevi, Aegialia, in the presence of director Alexander Payne, on Monday, July 22. Crowds of people flocked to Alonia on Friday to enjoy the film that has remained in the consciousness of cinephiles as the par excellence cinematic reference to wine, self-discovery and experience as self-realization.
The event was organized by the Municipality of Aegialia and the International Short Film Festival of Aegian “Theodoros Angelopoulos” – AISFF in collaboration with the Wine Quality Network and the support of the Philoprogressive Educational Association of Paraskevi Aegialia.
The mountain village of Aegialia, known for its vineyards, hosted the anniversary screening, which was combined with a tasting of local wines, with Alexander Payne expressing his delight at holding the screening in such a special place.
The screening was welcomed by the mayor of Aegialia, Mr. Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, who expressed his joy at the presence of the director of Greek origin with roots from Aegialia, while the coordinator of the AISFF, Mr. Thodoris Panoutsopoulos, spoke of the excellent collaboration that exists with the acclaimed creator. The president of the Philoprogressive Educational Association of Paraskevi, Mr. Fanis Lapanaitis, thanked Alexander Payne and offered him local products.
Finally, the president of the Wine Quality Network, Mr. Angelos Rouvalis, gave a brief historical overview of the importance of wine.
