Rome, the case of the Pirelli Institute professor explodes. An internal investigation begins –

A group selfie with an outstretched arm, racist comments and homophobic jokes. The one who ended up in the storm is a professor at the Pirelli Institute in Rome, in the Tuscolano neighborhood. These scenes were immortalized in some videos filmed by his own students who had the courage to report the facts only after their final exams. The images, released by Repubblica, show a group photo with some doing the Roman salute, the professor who seems to mime a sexual act behind a student bent over the desk. In another video, the teacher locks a student in a wastepaper basket, amid laughter from the others. In a recording, the professor can be heard talking to the students about when he was their age and watched “pornazzi”. The teacher is also said to have made homophobic and racist comments. The teacher is said to have asked a gay boy if he had gone to Muccassassina and how many relationships he had had. Instead, he is said to have ironically asked a Filipino girl to go and clean his house.

The Regional School Office for Lazio has launched an internal investigation. “We are deeply saddened and concerned by what has been reported, as racist and homophobic behavior is unacceptable and in clear contradiction with the values ​​of inclusiveness, respect and equality that our institution firmly promotes and defends”, they underline in a note. “Unaware of the situation, which we learned about only today through the press, we immediately launched an internal investigation to carry out the necessary checks. Our priority – they assure – is to guarantee a safe and respectful educational environment for all students”. The General Management of the Regional School Office for Lazio “reiterates its commitment to combating all forms of discrimination and promoting an inclusive school climate. Any behavior that violates these principles will be addressed with the utmost seriousness and determination”. And it concludes by expressing “support for the students and families involved, assuring them that we will work tirelessly to re-establish a peaceful educational environment that respects everyone’s rights”.

Mayor Roberto Gualtieri is categorical: “Rome cannot tolerate discriminatory and fascist behavior like that of a professor at the Pirelli Institute in Tuscolano. I expect that what happened will be quickly clarified, because certain behaviors must always be condemned and sanctioned, especially if they are committed by a teacher.”
