Palestine – Three Israeli soldiers were injured on Thursday in a shooting incident in the northern occupied West Bank, followed by the army imposing a siege on the city of Qalqilya.
The Israeli army said in a statement that unknown assailants opened fire from a passing car at soldiers near the town of Nabi Elias, near the city of Qalqilya.
He continued: “As a result of the shooting, two soldiers who were working in the area were slightly injured and a third soldier was moderately injured, and they were evacuated to receive treatment in a hospital.”
He added that his forces had begun a manhunt for the shooters.
Without mentioning that the injured were soldiers, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority (official) reported earlier that 3 Israelis were injured as a result of gunfire near the town of Nabi Elias.
Eyewitnesses told the Anadolu Agency correspondent that the Israeli army closed the entrances to Qalqilya from the eastern and northern sides, and imposed a siege on it after the shooting, and large Israeli forces are present at the entrances to the city.
Qalqilya is located in the northern West Bank and is surrounded by the Israeli separation wall on all sides. It is connected to the West Bank by only two entrances, at which Israel has placed military gates.
Witnesses also told Anadolu Agency that the army closed the entrances to the towns of Nabi Elias, Azoun, and Izbat al-Taneeb, and closed the road between Qalqilya and Tulkarm.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, killing 589 Palestinians, wounding 5,400, and arresting 9,785, according to official Palestinian sources.
These attacks coincide with a war waged by Israel with American support on Gaza, which has resulted in more than 129,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.
Tel Aviv continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice orders to end the invasion of Rafah (south), take measures to prevent acts of genocide, and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Israel is also defying a request by the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor, Karim Khan, to issue arrest warrants for its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and its Defense Minister Yoav Galant, for their responsibility for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Gaza.
For the 18th year, Tel Aviv has besieged the Gaza Strip, and its war has forced about two million of its population, numbering about 2.3 million Palestinians, to flee in catastrophic conditions, with a severe and deliberate shortage of food, water and medicine.
