The demonstration took place on Tuesday, the day before Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu addresses the US Congress.

The demonstrators wore red T-shirts with messages such as “Not in our name” and “Jews want a stop to the arming of Israel”, as well as banners with slogans such as “Cease fire now” and “Let Gaza live”.

– For nine months we have witnessed countless atrocities in the Gaza Strip, carried out in our name and paid for by our government, the group wrote on social media.

According to the police, around 200 people were arrested. The activists state that 400 people participated, and that over 250 were arrested.

– We asked the people, who entered legally, to stop, and that they would otherwise be arrested. They didn’t stop. Demonstrating inside the congress buildings is illegal, the police write in a statement.

The demonstration took place in Cannon House, the oldest office building associated with Congress in Washington. It is located in the southeast corner of the park surrounding Capitol Hill.

During the visit to the USA, the Israeli Prime Minister will also meet President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
