The case of domestic violence reached the audience of the courts of Thessaloniki, with the 37-year-old defendant being sentenced by the Autoforo to a redeemable prison sentence of 2 years (at 10 euros per day), as he was found guilty of domestic bodily harm.
“On the occasion of the food I made and he didn’t like it, he started slapping me in the face. I tried to escape and ran to the front door, but he stepped in front of me and grabbed me by the hair. I managed to leave the apartment and went out into the street looking for a taxi. My lips were bleeding,” the complainant said in her statement to the police which was read in court, after she was not present at the trial. She also reported similar incidents of violence against her by the same man in the past.
