These are the most polluted beaches in Mexico, according to Cofepris

MEXICO.- Due to the High levels of pollution18 beaches in Mexico They are not suitable for recreational usewarned this Wednesday the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris).

However, Cofepris indicated that 93.8% of beaches in Mexico do not represent any risk for domestic and foreign tourists in the country’s 17 coastal states.

Cofepris explained that this is the result of sampling carried out on 289 Mexican beaches distributed across 76 tourist destinations prior to the summer holiday period.

“This rigorous analysis included a total of 2,315 samples obtained at 393 points, and revealed that 93.8% of the beaches (271 in total) meet the standards for recreational use,” the Mexican public agency reported.

Beaches that are a risk to health

While The 18 beaches that exceeded the permitted levels of enterococciaccording to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), are concentrated in five states.

“This federal commission coordinates with the State Health Risk Protection Areas of the five entities the implementation of immediate sanitation actions to achieve optimal conditions on the aforementioned beaches, in order to prevent health risks,” Cofepris said.

For its part, asked the population to maintain cleanliness of the beaches during the holiday season and throughout the year, as they are natural spaces.
