Skibidi Toilet, the global phenomenon on both TikTok and YouTube for Generation Z and Alpha, will make the leap from webshow format to transcend to long-form content thanks to Michael Bay and Adam Goodman who will bring the franchise to film and television.
In a recent interview with the media Varietydirector Michael Bay and former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman spoke about their plans with Skibidi Toilet.
“We are in discussions right now, both on the television side and in early discussions right now on the film side,” Goodman said. “But it’s not the be-all and end-all for us.”
According to Goodman, the franchise has potential thanks to the large size of its audience accumulated on social networks such as YouTube, Tik Tok, games like Roblox and having become part of popular culture, which gives it a broad monetization opportunity.
While it is known that Michael Bay, director recognized for films such as Transformers, Bad Boys, Armageddon, A Quiet Place and others, will be in charge of directing this next project, it has not yet been specified which studio will be in charge of carrying out the production.
What is known is that Adam Goodman hopes the project will have a hybrid version of animation and live action, which he compared to films like John Wick and District 9.
“If we find a partner that really believes there’s an opportunity for this to grow and to really see the narrative grow and for this to be where we hope it can be, then film and television seems like a natural extension for us,” Goodman said.
But… What the hell is Skibidi Toilet?
Alexey Gerasimov uploaded an 11-second video to his YouTube channel DaFuq!? Boom! called “skibidi toilet”, in which a head appeared coming out of a toilet singing
The webshow gradually evolved into over 70 1- to 5-minute mini-epics depicting the ever-escalating war between the Toilets and the Cyborgs. Each video is explosive, violent, and has no discernible dialogue. Those qualities have earned it a worldwide audience, not to mention the distinction of being a cultural icon that Gen Z and Alpha can call their own.
These videos have been created with Source Filmmaker, a Valve program that uses the Source engine and allows you to create 3D animated shorts using assets from video games such as Half-Life 2, also from Valve.
