LIMITED access to Indonesian children’s songs has caused many children on social media, especially TikTok, to sing songs that are not appropriate for their age. This was highlighted by the music group RAN, led by Rayi, Asta and Nino. According to the three, children should be able to sing and express their feelings through songs that are appropriate for their age.

That is also what made RAN finally release a mini album titled RAN for Your Kids, which invited child singers from auditions to be able to sing RAN’s songs that have a more general theme and can be sung by children. The three of them also realized that the emergence of children singing adult songs was not the fault of the child, the fault of the parents, or the fault of the musician who owned the song. However, one of the reasons was also the minimal exposure to today’s children’s songs.

“This is not just the fault of the child or the parent, or even the songwriter. Maybe it’s because of the coincidence of the song options available, or the lack of access and exposure to children’s songs. So in the end, parents or their children don’t know which songs are safe for children to consume or listen to,” said Rayi after the press conference for the release of the RAN for Your Kids mini album at Urban Forest Cipete, South Jakarta, Tuesday, (23/7/2024).

The RAN for Your Kids album, Rayi continued, is a response to the lack of exposure of Indonesian children’s songs. Currently, there are more children’s songs from outside Indonesia.

“In our opinion, children should sing songs that are more suitable for their age. Because there are many dictions that are not yet time for them to hear. So at the age of children, just listen to the beautiful ones first,” added Nino.
