”Alito” denies supporting reform

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the PRI, senator-elect and who will be re-elected to the position at the head of the CEN, denied that he will support the judicial reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“The PRI benches in the current and the next Legislature will vote against the judicial reform if it does not have substantial modifications that respect the division of powers and the judicial career,” he said.

“It is very dangerous for Mexico that the 4T wants to imitate the bad Latin American models of electing judges, given the contempt for the rule of law and compliance with the law, because instead of striving to comply with it, it wants judges who always agree with it,” added the questioned PRI leader.

In this regard, Alejandro Moreno said that “in the PRI we will be attentive to the proposals generated by the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF)” and “we will view the issue with the utmost seriousness and concern.” “But with the current wording, by not respecting the judicial career, by wanting to have judges who are in their own way, by not having elements to ensure that the most prepared people provide us with justice and by violating labor rights and, above all, the expectation of better justice and a better country, we firmly say that we will not support such nonsense,” he said.

The national leader of the PRI argued that the deliberative forums on judicial reform that are being held “are mere simulations.”

“The 4T does not want to comply with any rules and wants judges to suit themselves, destroying the judicial career,” he said.

Yesterday we published that the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal received three challenges against the PRI National Assembly, in which modifications to the statutes that would allow the reelection of Alejandro Moreno were approved. The three matters were referred to the report of magistrate Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón, who will be in charge of preparing the project for this case. As we published, the first challenge was filed by former PRI leaders Dulce María Sauri, Enrique Ochoa and Joaquín Coldwell.
