Young man tries to buy a Mazda car for less than 600 pesos; asks Profeco for help: “I hope they respect my price”

Companies such as Liverpool and even Cartier have made the mistake of publishing the wrong price for some of their products, mainly on their internet portals, reducing the cost by up to 90%, which is not only taken advantage of by customers but cases have even gone viral on social media when the company refuses to sell the item for the amount it was purchased for.

Last week, Leonardo Luna Flores reported on the social network TikTok that he tried to buy a Mazda car for less than 600 pesos, through the official portal of the Japanese automotive company, in which the MX-5 2024 model was sold at a price of 519.9 pesos.

In a first video, the Internet user showed that on the page most of the prices were shown separated by a comma, to indicate that they were sold for thousands of pesos; except for the cost of the convertible, which was separated by a period.

For this reason, he took the opportunity to buy it through the portal by carrying out the corresponding process, which consisted of filling out a form with the payment method, in which the amount of 519.9 pesos continued to appear.

When he sent his purchase request, he received a message stating that it had been sent successfully and that he would be contacted shortly to complete the quote for the car, without giving further details.

In a second video, allegedly posted from San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, the TikTok user showed a message from Mazda indicating that there had been no adjustments to its prices on the website and that they recommended that he go to a customer service center to receive better advice.

In response to this, the young man pointed out that his case was still under investigation. A few days later, on Tuesday, he published a third video in which he shows a letter he sent to the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO), in which he describes how he tried to buy the Mazda vehicle and the company is not respecting the stated price.

In the same publication, the user states that the letter was valid, since according to article 7 bis of PROFECO, it obliges companies to respect the prices indicated at the time of purchase.

In response to this, some Internet users commented that in his case it was not a purchase, but a quote, so in their logic the Mazda company would not be committing any fault; however, the young man responds that according to the same article it also applies to his situation.

In a final video, the young man indicated that through WhatsApp, Mazda sent him the quote he requested through the portal, showing the same amount of 519 pesos for the MX-5 car, along with the technical sheet and photos of the unit.

In his posts, the Internet user received hundreds of comments in which other users criticized him for taking advantage of the situation, as well as clarifying that clearly the prices are in thousands of pesos and not less than 600 pesos.
