Sofia Polyzogopoulou – a new bomb in her testimony: “Apostolos Lytras was addicted to gambling” – 2024-07-24 06:27:02

“At this casino he was wasting exorbitant amounts of our family income, creating more general risks for our family.”

A new supplementary statement was given on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in the 18th regular investigator Sofia Polyzogopoulou, a few months after her brutal beating by the well-known criminologist Apostolos Lytras. In this new deposition, the lawyer also describes what was happening in their home behind closed doors and in the spotlight, which have nothing to do with the image they presented as a couple in the media.

According to her claims and what the “Bam” newspaper brings to light, the first problems in the relationship with the accused began at the end of 2017, when he found out that he is pathologically addicted to gambling.

«He used to go to a gambling club in the evenings, not legal, which according to what I had perceived, and he himself confirmed it along the way, was in the northern suburbs, probably in some hotel. In this gambling club, he was wasting exorbitant amounts of our family income, but the problem was not only financial, but also the fact that his gambling addiction created more general risks for our family,” said Sofia Polyzogopoulou.

Despite all that, I was also very supportive of his older children, with whom I am very close, a fact that she always took advantage of. I had informed about these problems of the accused and had asked for the assistance of his family environment, i.e. his parents and his sister, but they turned a blind eye, they treated me disparagingly and the answers I received were, among other things, that his father also played and they did not suffer anything…”, continues Sofia Polyzogopoulou in her testimony.

Following her testimony, the lawyer points out that at the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018, the criminologist “mostly to convince me not to divorce” turned to a mental health specialist based in Kolonaki. However, he points out that Lytras was not consistent in the visits either, but not according to the expert’s instructions.

“…My relationship with the opponent was completely shaken during that time because of the above incidents that I am mentioning to you, except when he suffered a heart attack, in which his life was immediately in danger, even in the ambulance when we took him to the hospital, in which I was in, because I had been informed that he might not make it to the second hospital where he would have the operation, I judged that I had to push aside whatever problems existed and that he himself had created, and I considered it a moral obligation to my child to stand by him all levels due to this health problem, just as I did all the years of our life together having taken on almost all the burdens of our family, i.e. raising our child alone, supporting our older children, whom I have raised like my children, the biggest burden of our joint work, as he himself had to stay away for a while, but even until now the doctors had advised him not to get tired, not to stress”, said Mrs. Polyzogopoulou, pointing out that after his health adventure the accused criminologist complied with the instructions of the mental health specialist, refrained “with minor relapses from gambling and his behavior in general had normalized”.
