Chilean Government Dismisses Cochilco Vice President Joaquín Morales; Claudia Rodríguez Appointed Interim Successor

The government removed Joaquín Morales Godoy from his position as the Executive Vice President of the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco). The lawyer took office in March 2023, a position he attained through the Public High Management System.

In a press release, the Ministry of Mining stated that it accepted the “involuntary resignation” of the academic from the University of Chile, submitted this Monday.

“Morales joined the institution in January 2020 as a prosecutor and was later appointed as acting executive vice president of the Commission in March 2022. The Ministry of Mining thanks Joaquín Morales for his work during these four years at Cochilco,” the communication indicated.

Additionally, the portfolio led by Aurora Williams detailed that Claudia Rodríguez, who serves as the institution’s prosecutor, will take on the role of acting executive vice president of Cochilco “pending the public competition process conducted by the Civil Service.”

Rodríguez is a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and holds a postgraduate degree in Integrity and Good Governance from the same institution. She has been with Cochilco since 2008, initially serving as a prosecutor, and since 2022 as an acting prosecutor. She has also worked at Sernageomin and at the Civil Registration and Identification Service.
