Indonesia Supports ICJ Ruling on Israeli Occupation of Palestine Illegal – 2024-07-23 21:15:40

Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani (MI)

House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the Indonesian parliament welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which stated that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land was a criminal act, aka illegal.

“We, the Indonesian parliament, support the immediate implementation of the decision and for Israel to immediately stop the conflict, especially in the Gaza Strip,” said Puan in a written statement, Tuesday (23/7).

Puan said the ICJ decision could be a new starting point, especially in efforts to achieve peace and justice for the Palestinian people.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP invited all parties to support diplomatic efforts that could accelerate the process of resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“We hope that the international community, including the United Nations, can play an active role in ensuring that this decision is respected and implemented. Only in this way can we achieve a just and lasting peace in Palestine,” he stressed.

The ruling, he said, is not only relevant to Palestine. But also to global efforts to uphold justice and respect human rights.

“Respect for international law is an important basis for maintaining global peace and stability. This decision should serve as a reminder for all countries to adhere to the principles of international law and support peaceful conflict resolution,” Puan stressed. (Z-11)
