The first symptoms of prostate cancer – Al Marsad Libyan newspaper

According to World Health Organization statistics, prostate cancer in the United States, Europe and Russia ranks second among men over 70 years of age. That is, it comes after lung cancer in terms of prevalence.

The specialist points out that the disease is linked to the man’s age. For example, it rarely affects men aged 50, while it is diagnosed in 70 percent of men aged 75.

“Although prostate cancer is very common among men, it is highly treatable even at stage IV and has the best survival rates compared to other male cancers,” he says.

According to him, prostate cancer is characterized by its slow development and less aggressive behavior of a malignant tumor. In some men, the tumor can grow for several years, without any symptoms that would worry the man. As a rule, a man notices the first symptoms very late, when the tumor increases in size, pressing on the urethra. In advanced stages, metastases spread to the bones and grow on the walls of the bladder and rectum.
The specialist points out that the main symptoms of the development of a prostate tumor are the appearance of blood and pain during urination. These symptoms may appear early or at an advanced stage when it begins to spread to neighboring organs. Another sign of a prostate tumor is involuntary urination, as urinary incontinence can occur as a result of the tumor pressing on the urinary tract. As a rule, this leads to chronic bladder fullness and involuntary urination, which requires immediate help from a specialist. Otherwise, complications may occur that become difficult to deal with. Also, a frequent urge to urinate day and night and a weak urine stream may indicate prostate cancer.

In addition, swelling of the genitals, enlargement and compression of the lymph nodes in the groin may indicate the spread of tumor metastases along the lymphatic pathways. Therefore, the patient may feel discomfort while sitting, as well as pain in the perineum. In addition, this condition may be accompanied by erectile dysfunction, which creates an additional feeling of discomfort for the man.

Finally, if the blood test shows that the PSA level exceeds 4 ng/ml, it indicates that pathological changes have already begun in the prostate. If the PSA level exceeds 10 ng/ml, it indicates the malignant nature of the tumor and the appearance of metastases.
