– Nestle suspected of illegal water extraction and selling
A preliminary investigation into illegal drilling activities is underway in Epinal, France. Nestlé Waters is suspected of illegally taking water.
The accusation alleges that Nestlé Waters illegally extracted and sold water without authorization by drilling between 1992 and 2019. The consumption of water may exceed 19 billion liters over the past 20 years, according to a report by employees of the French Biodiversity Authority cited by investigative media, which has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office as part of the investigation.
Research platform Mediapart also revealed that Nestlé had apparently been using illegal methods to filter contaminated water since the 1990s and selling it as “natural mineral water” without informing consumers. The fraud is said to have amounted to €3 billion in the past 15 years alone.
