Joe Biden supports Kamala Harris as the new presidential candidate

– Today I want to give my full support to Kamala, writes Biden on X.

Biden announced on Sunday evening on the same social medium that he is withdrawing as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Kamala Harris is Biden’s vice president and among the favorites to take over as the Democrats’ candidate.

Biden is full of praise for his vice president.

– My very first decision as the party’s candidate in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my vice president. And it is the best decision I have made, writes Biden.

– Democrats, now is the time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this, he writes.

Harris, 59, is the first female vice president in US history. She is also the first black person and the first person of Indian origin to hold office.

Before becoming vice president, Harris was California’s attorney general from 2010 to 2017 before becoming a Democratic senator.

The United States has only once before elected a black president, and it has never elected a woman to the role.

– Will her background and gender become a topic? Absolutely, says LaTosha Brown to the news agency Reuters.

She is an analyst at the organization Black Voters Matter Fund and believes that Harris can be a contrast to the two white men who stand on the Republican side, Donald Trump and vice-presidential candidate JD Vance.

– It reflects America’s past, while Harris reflects today’s USA and the future, says Brown.

Similar race in measurement

On 15 and 16 July, Reuters and Ipsos conducted a poll in which Harris and Trump were pitted against each other. There they both received support of 44 percent.

In the same poll, Bid led with 43 percent against 41 percent for Trump, but the difference of two percentage points was within the margin of error.

Harris, who is almost 20 years younger than Trump, has, among other things, engaged in abortion rights, an issue that engages young and progressive voters.

Her supporters also believe that she can attract support from the African-American segment of the population, and that her debating skills enable her to build opposition to Trump.
