Claudio Fermín promises decentralization and State Reform (+VIDEO)

Remembered by many after his time as Mayor of Caracas in the Fourth Republic, respected by others as a university professor and sociologist and not very well liked by some, Claudio Fermin It remains a piece on the chessboard of Venezuelan politics.

This sociologist graduated from the Andres Bello Catholic Universityis currently one of the nine presidential candidates of the opposition that will compete on July 28, in an election that has been described as fleeting and unprecedented, but which will still mark a milestone in contemporary history.

Llanero, originally from the state of Barinas, from Magallanes and a lover of joropo recio, has competed in five presidential contests, including the current one.

Fermin now promises to be a Government of consensus and unification, where it says that peace and understanding must prevail, but above all polarization must end.

To this end, he indicates that his proposal is focused on an ideological inclusion where all political tendencies have to join hands and sit down to negotiate and contribute.

In addition, a scope must be established in public administration, but above all, a model of State reform.

With specific plans, he believes that Venezuela can be rescued from its impasse in areas such as health, agriculture and, no less important, food for the people.

The failures of Chavismo

Fermin was asked what he would do if he won the electionswith various social programs of the current administration.

He was emphatic in saying that when a Government aspires to maintain emergency social programs such as food bags or the bondsIn reality, what they are doing is offering a few “warm-up measures” to deal with the “fever” that the economy is going through.

“Wage bonuses, food packages, that is, these welfare aids, are resources that people turn to when they cannot create wealth. When there is not enough agricultural production in a country, not enough livestock production, when there are no marketing channels, when there is no food production and when there is no purchasing power on the part of the population, then countries create these welfare programs.”

“Now in Venezuela, at a time when food production has been in crisis and wages are in crisis, then the Government provides these Clap boxes. One cannot but understand that these are manifestations of the state of necessity. When countries are in crisis and reach these states of necessity, they resort to these programs.”

“Now, how can a country aspire to maintain these programs? If a country or a candidate says that it aspires to maintain these programs, it indicates that it aspires to maintain a country in crisis.”

Recovering the USA

Fermin considers that other of the current actions are not very successful Government and where he promises to work hard is in the recovery of international relations, especially in the economic area.

The sociologist says that diplomatic relations with countries such as China, Russia and Iran are nothing new. He recalls that Venezuelan diplomacy during the IV Republic, It was a fundamental pillar in economic growth, where exchange with these nations and others was carried out without any setbacks.

He asserts that it is urgent to restore relations with the United States, a country that due to its geographical condition was for many years a commercial alliance for Venezuela. But also, with the current diaspora, the north has become the gathering center for thousands of compatriots, who have formed a considerable colony of Creoles in one of the most powerful nations in the world and which is only four hours away by flight from the Maiquetía airport.

Claudio Fermin wants return to decentralization

It is imperative for the candidate to carry out a process of decentralization of powers, where the regions resume the leading role and competition between them, which once made states such as Aragua, Carabobo, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, Mérida, Zulia and Anzoátegui have favorable statistics at the time.

He believes that maintaining strict control over everything in a centralised manner and from the capital does not contribute to any kind of progress in either the economy or social security of the regions.

“Magallanes is the only one who has given his name to a sector”

This llanero, a die-hard lover of joropo, a faithful follower of the music of “his friend” Reynaldo Armas (although he says they have the opposite political thinking) and Carrao de Palmarito, he does not hide his fondness for one of the most emblematic teams of Venezuelan baseball, the Navegantes del Magallanes.

“In 1914, when Cervecería Caracas was founded, there was already a sector called Los Magallanes in Catia. Magallanes is the only team that has given its name to a sector.”
