Ortega gives full powers to one of his sons with China

SAN JOSE (EFE).— Yesterday, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega granted full powers to one of his sons, Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, to sign two agreements on cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

Through two presidential agreements published in the Official Gazette La Gaceta in Managua, Ortega granted full powers to his son, who holds the position of presidential advisor for Investments, Trade and International Cooperation, so that, acting on behalf of and representing the government of Nicaragua, he could sign agreements with China.

The Nicaraguan president authorized his son to sign the “Memorandum of Understanding between the International Development Cooperation Agency of the People’s Republic of China and the Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic of Nicaragua on the planning of development cooperation between both countries for the period 2025-2027.”

Also to sign the ‘Agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua’.

Laureano Facundo, one of the sons of Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, is under sanctions by the United States and the European Union for committing “serious violations of the human rights” of Nicaraguans and for having supported the “fraudulent” elections of November 2021, in which his parents were re-elected with their main opponents in prison.

On the other hand, the Nicaraguan government yesterday ordered the closure and confiscation of the assets of Radio María, an emblematic radio station of the Catholic Church with more than 40 years of operations, according to the official newspaper La Gaceta.

The closure of the radio station was announced by an agreement of the Ministry of the Interior in which an alleged “breach of obligations” was cited for not presenting its financial statements or renewing its board of directors.
