NBA star LeBron James will be the flag bearer for the United States (US) contingent at the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the USOPC announced on Monday (22/7).
James was selected by fellow US athletes who will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics for the opening ceremony which will take place on Friday (7/26).
The USOPC will announce the women’s flag bearer on Tuesday (23/7).
“It is an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially at a time when the world can unite,” the Los Angeles Lakers forward said in a statement.
“For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything, not just to me, but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, my fellow Olympians, and so many people across the country with big aspirations.”
“Sport has the power to unite us all, and I am proud to be a part of this important moment,” he added.

The ceremony on the River Seine will be the first time the Olympics have opened outside the main stadium.
James isn’t the only NBA star who will be a flag bearer for his country.
Milwaukee Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpo will also be the flag bearer for the Greek contingent. (Ant/Z-1)
