The delegation of athletes that the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) will take to the Paris Games between July 26 and August 11 is already prepared to attend what will be its 20th participation in the event.

A total of 33 Venezuelans secured their ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. All of them will be led by triple jump champion Yulimar Rojas and Venezuelan weightlifter Julio Mayora; who will be the standard-bearers at the opening ceremony, which will take place on Friday, July 26 on the Seine River, located north of the French capital.

The sports disciplines in which Venezuelan athletes will compete will be athletics, boxing, road cycling, horse riding, fencing, judo, wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, swimming, weightlifting, taekwondo and pistol shooting.

Venezuela’s first participation in the Olympic Games was in London 1948, when cyclist Julio César León represented the country in those games. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Venezuela won its first bronze medal, won by Asnoldo Devonish in the triple jump (15.52 m).

In its Olympic record, Venezuela has achieved a total of 21 medals accumulated in its history: 4 gold, 7 silver, 10 bronze. Boxing is the discipline in which the country’s athletes have won the most medals, with six of the 21 Olympic medals.

Since Athens 2004, Creole athletes have been awarded at least once in a row. The last to achieve this were the four from Tokyo 2020: Yulimar Rojas (gold in triple jump), Daniel Dhers (silver in BMX freestyle), Julio Mayora and Keydomar Vallenilla (both silver in weightlifting). Both Mayora and Vallenilla will be present in Paris 2024.
