Senators beat Leaders and achieved their third title in the LMBP

History repeated itself in 2021 and 2022. The Caracas Senators once again became the champions of the Major Professional Baseball League (LMBP) in its 2024 edition and took home the “Copa Banco de Venezuela” by beating Líderes de Miranda in the fifth game of the Grand Final with a score of 5 runs to 3 at the José Pérez Colmenares stadium in Maracay.

According to Angel Conde, a member of the LMBP press department, just like in the two previous games, the capital team combined excellent pitching with timely hitting to take the victory. Starter Julio Vivas was only on the mound for 3.0 innings in which he allowed three runs, two of which were earned, but from then on the relievers did not give much freedom.

In total, the bullpen completed 6.0 scoreless innings in which they allowed five hits, gave away two walks and struck out two to stop the Miranda offense in its tracks. Within that work, they were key in the bottom of the fourth inning when Líderes placed the game by a difference of one (4×3). But Félix Carvallo and Eduardo Paredes arrived to minimize the damage and finish the inning, with two runners in scoring position that could have represented the advantage of the home team.

Then, in the eighth inning with one out and runners on first and second, Mayckol Guaipe came in to relieve Jason García and, although he made a wild pitch that advanced the runners, he then dominated Ramón Cabrera and Nicol Parra with a pair of ground balls that ended up making the score zero and thus lowering the Santamaría to the ball game.

Batters

In terms of batting, the Senate bats opened the scoreboard with a run in the second inning, courtesy of a single courtesy of Edgardo Fermin that brought Sandber Pimentel home. In the following inning, they made three more with an RBI from Dariel Alvarez that brought Yoelkis Guibert home after a grounder to the shortstop and immediately Pimentel himself hit it between center and right with Rayder Ascanio on board. Likewise, the fifth and last one came in the fifth inning in the legs of Guibert on a wild pitch by Yeizo Campos with the bases loaded.

In totals, Will Changarotty (1-0) was the winner of the game by working 2.0 innings of one hit without runs, Dylan Unsworth (0-2) took the loss by accumulating 3.0 sections of four runs without fouls and Mayckol Guaipe (2) was awarded the save.

“I don’t have words to explain all this. I am truly very grateful to the boys for all the work they did, for how they worked hard all season, and once again we lifted the championship trophy,” manager Victor Garate told LMBP TV in the midst of celebration after the game ended. “I always trusted them, adjustments were made when necessary and that brought us here.”

Gratitude

“I couldn’t be more grateful to the staff, the players, the office, those who are not seen, everyone is part of this beautiful championship. We were coming off a difficult season where we were left out of the classification and we had to prove that Senadores had to return to its historic place in the league and today the fact of being the most successful in the Major League is reaffirmed,” said César Collins, President of the Caracas team.

In this way, the Senate closed its season with a flourish, achieving its third championship and paving the way for the possibility of hegemony within the LMBP, as it won its third title in four years.
