A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.3 shook northern Chile Thursday night. The epicenter of the tremor was located in the Atacama region, at a depth of approximately 126 kilometers.
Even residents of the state of São Paulo, at the opposite end of the South American continent, reported experiencing tremors.

The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy has declared that there is no risk of a tsunami on the country’s coasts, according to local media reports.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric announced that a moderate earthquake occurred with its epicenter near Antofagasta. On his official account on the social network X, he reported that he had already contacted the regional delegate and so far no injuries or significant damage have been reported, but the teams are gathering information.
The National Seismological Centre of the University of Chile has reported several aftershocks near San Pedro de Atacama, indicating that their magnitude has varied between 3.1 and 4.8 on the Richter scale.
