Vladimir Putin said he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held talks which were “warm and friendly”.
The Russian president added that the “timely” decision by the Russian and Chinese authorities to carry out transactions in their national currencies increased trade between the two countries.
“Today 90% of all payments are already made in rubles and yuan,” stressed Putin.
Putin arrives in Beijing for his meeting with Xi Jinping, which looks to have a strong focus on defense.

The Russian president also stated in his joint interview with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing that Moscow is grateful to China for its efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
Putin said he would inform him Xi Jinping regarding the situation in Ukrainewhere Russian forces are advancing on several fronts.
In Moscow, according to protothema, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the United States and other countries are trying to pressure China to limit its cooperation with Russia, but Beijing is strong enough to resist.
“There are attempts by the United States and other countries to unabashedly put pressure on China to limit its cooperation with Russia,” Peskov told the Izvestia newspaper.
“But the Chinese are strong enough to resist it,” he added.
