Current President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he will not run for re-election. He points to Vice President Harris.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has openly stated that he is interested in running for election in 2028. The 56-year-old is a former mayor of San Francisco. He has publicly endorsed Biden repeatedly recently.
Not challenging
On Sunday, Newsom came out with his clear support for Kamala Harris.

At the age of 51, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was the youngest of the “favorites” on the bookmakers’ lists ahead of Biden’s announcement that he would not run. He was previously state attorney general in Pennsylvania and has, among other things, noted his clear support for Israel and criticism of students’ Palestine markings.
According to the Reuters news agency, he announced on Sunday that he supports the current vice president.
Also other governors
In an interview with CNN, Colorado Governor Jared Polis also says he supports Harris. So does North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

He says that the two have known each other since they were justice ministers and believes she has what it takes to beat Donald Trump in the presidential election in November and lead the country.
Harris also has the support of Pete Buttigieg, the current US Secretary of Transportation. The openly gay war veteran, who has Norwegian among the eight languages he speaks, challenged Joe Biden before the presidential election in 2020 and was mentioned as a possible candidate to take over the candidacy.
Hot favorites are silent
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker are also mentioned among the hottest contenders for Kamala Harris. Neither has announced whether or not they are backing Harris.
The delegations from both North and South Carolina have in official statements given their support to Harris. So has Louisiana’s delegation.
Reuters refers to sources who state that all 50 state leaders of the Democratic Party support Kamala Harris. According to the news agency, the state leaders held a telephone meeting on Sunday, following Joe Biden announced that he was withdrawing as the party’s presidential candidate.
One source says that there was “full support” for standing behind Harris, who is now vice-president, as the party’s candidate.
