Russia attacks kyiv for the fifth time in two weeks, which intercepts its drones

Russia launched its fifth drone attack on the Ukrainian capital in the past two weeks early Sunday, but anti-aircraft defense systems managed to intercept all the aircraft, the head of the Kiev Regional Military Administration, Sergey Popko, said on Sunday.

The alerts began to sound shortly before 2 a.m. local time and “were triggered by the threat of attack drones,” he wrote on Telegram.

“In the past two weeks, this has been at least the fifth consecutive real attempt by the enemy to attack the capital with drones,” Popko said.

Drone attacks

Several unmanned aerial vehicles launched by Russia were heading towards kyiv, “but all of them were destroyed by air defence forces and electronic warfare means on the approaches,” he explained.

“There are no casualties or damage in kyiv at the moment,” Popko said.

According to the head of the kyiv Regional Military Administration, these systematic drone attacks by the Russians once once more demonstrate “that the invader is actively seeking to strike” the capital.

“It is trying out its new tactics, looking for routes to the capital and trying to expose the location of our air defense,” he said.

According to the report of the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mikola Oleshchuk, in the evening Russian forces attacked ten regions of Ukraine with three Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two X-59/69 guided missiles and 39 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones.

Air defenses managed to shoot down 35 drones, while guided missiles failed to hit their targets.
The air defense areas are divided into the regions of Sumy (northeast), Poltava (centre), Kiev (northeast), Cherniguiv (northeast), Jersón (sur), Dnipró (centre), Donetsk (este), Mikolaiv (sur), Odesa (sur) and Cherkasi (centre).

Russian fighters intercept two US bombers

Russian fighter jets intercepted two American B-52H bombers over the Barents Sea on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

As soon as the MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighters approached, the US strategic aircraft turned around and moved away from the Russian border, the official statement said.

Following this interception manoeuvre, which prevented a violation of Russian airspace, the fighters returned to their bases.

Russia attacks critical infrastructure in Sumi

Russian armed forces also launched a missile attack on critical infrastructure facilities in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumi overnight, the Regional Military Administration reported on Sunday.

The attack took place in the Shostka district, he said on Telegram.

The amount of damage caused is not yet known, he added.

Russia announces the capture of two more villages

The Russian army announced today the capture of two more small villages in the Ukrainian regions of Lugansk (east) and Kharkiv (northeast).

According to the Ministry of Defence, these towns – Andreyevka (Luhansk) and Peshchanoye Nizhneye (Kharkiv) – were captured by units of the Zapad (West) group.

Both villages, which had fewer than 100 inhabitants before the war, are located in the same frontline area, close to the administrative line separating Lugansk from Kharkiv.

Russia shoots down two ATACMS missiles

Russian air defenses also shot down two ATACMS missiles heading toward Crimea on Sunday, according to Vladimir Saldo, governor of the annexed Kherson region bordering the peninsula.

“Russian batteries shot down two ATACMS precision missiles over the sky over Kherson in the morning. The enemy wanted to attack Crimea,” he wrote on Telegram.

He said the fragments of the US-made missiles fell far from populated areas and caused no injuries or material damage.
