A palm oil plantation worker belonging to PT Sunli Acronia Sukses, Yasonia Zega, was killed by a Sumatran tiger in Siak Regency, Riau, Tuesday (16/7).

Yasonia was found dead in Penyengat Village, Sungai Apit District, Siak Regency, Riau, at around 23.30 WIB. The body was in the middle of the oil palm plantation of the company where he worked.

When found by residents, Yasonia’s body looked badly injured from tiger bites. Some parts of the victim’s body were separated from the body. According to eyewitnesses, Yasonia was working and was suddenly dragged by a tiger. The victim was immediately taken to the funeral home in Sungai Apit District.

The wild animal is back roaming around plantations and residential areas in Riau Province. Recently, this rare animal was seen by residents passing by on a company road, Pelalawan Regency. A resident recorded the tiger from inside a vehicle.

The Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center stated that the area often crossed by tigers is indeed the habitat of this wild animal. Head of Technical Division of Riau BBKSDA Ujang Holisudin appealed to the public to be careful and reduce activities at night.

“We appeal to residents who are doing activities in the tiger-human conflict area to be careful. As much as possible, stay away from the area, especially at night,” he said. (Ant/N-2)
