Course on work skills for people undergoing social reintegration completed

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The project “Opening Doors” of the Ministry of Justice and the organization Alumbra completed the course on work skills, as part of the social reintegration policies of the State portfolio.

Forty persons deprived of liberty (PPL) and 20 persons who had graduated from the penitentiary system participated in the training. The training was supported by the US Embassy and the Paraguay State Alumni Association.

The goal is to provide people who have gone through the prison system with access to training programs that will expand their job skills and facilitate their job search.

The courses included topics such as customer service, sales, communication skills, CV preparation, job interview techniques, work habits and culture, soft skills, building a life plan and managing digital and office tools.

The classes were taught by professionals from the Jobs company and were held at the semi-freedom establishments “Hogar Nueva Oportunidad”, Unidad Penitenciaria Industrial Esperanza (UPIE) and Granja penitenciaria Ko’ê Pyahu. In addition, at the Universidad Comunera (UCOM) the course was taught to people already in freedom and in the process of social reintegration.

Alejandra Mendoza, promoter of the “Alumbra” project and former fellow of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) of the U.S. State Department, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the program. “Through the training course in job skills, we seek to provide the beneficiaries with the skills that the current labor market demands, thus facilitating their obtaining better job opportunities,” she said.
