As streaming platforms have slowed their growth and now dominate the market, offering a wide range of choices, Netflix continues to adjust its pricing structure, as revealed in its latest earnings report meeting. The platform has announced that it will eliminate its cheapest ad-free subscription plan, which was available for $11.99 or €12.99 per month.
Netflix users will now have to choose between the ad-supported plan for €5.49 or $6.99 per month, or the premium plan without ads for $15.49 or €17.99 per month. The premium plan is the only option on the platform to avoid advertising during the viewing of series and films.
The elimination of the standard Netflix plan removes the only option that currently only allows one stream per household. However, the company explains that switching to the ad-supported plan “essentially, We are offering a better experience, two streams instead of one. We have higher definition. We have downloads. And of course, all at a lower price. We think this represents tremendous entertainment value. And it includes ads,” explained Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, as reported by Comicbook.
