Emmy Awards: 25 nominations for the series “Shogun” and 23 for “The Bear” | dzieje.pl

The story of a chef from the series “The Bear” has received 23 Emmy nominations, a record for a comedy production. The most nominations, 25, went to the series “Shogun,” an adaptation of the novel by James Clavell. The list of nominees for the Emmys, known as the Oscars of television, was released on Wednesday.

The nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards are the result of selection by 22,000 members of the Television Academy.

“The Bear” received nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White, among other nominations. The series has already received Emmys in both categories in 2023. This year, Ayo Edebiri was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Actress. Last year, she won an Emmy for her supporting role, also in “The Bear.”

The series also received nominations for its guest actresses, Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Olivia Colman.

“The Bear” will compete for an Emmy with, among others, “The Mission: Elementary,” a story regarding teachers from a Philadelphia school, “Hacks,” a portrait of a legendary Las Vegas diva, and “What We Do in the Shadows,” a story regarding vampires trying to live a normal life in New York.

Critics say the rash of nominations for the 10-episode series “Shogun,” created by film producer FX, is due to the fact that last year there were no premieres of subsequent seasons of “Succession,” “The White Lotus” or “The Last of Us,” which are award-winning HBO productions.

The series, set in early 17th-century Japan, has been nominated for Best Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama Series (for Anna Sawai) and Best Actor (for Hiroyuki Sanada), among other awards. The nominated production is a remake of the 1980 TV series.

Fans of the stories of Yoshii Toranaga, John Blackthorn and Toda Mariko expect the series to have further seasons, even though the ending of the first one followed the ending of Clavell’s book published in 1975. According to industry media, the new episodes will be based solely on the writers’ original ideas. The nomination of “Shogun” for an Emmy in the category of best drama series, not best limited series, is supposed to confirm this suspicion.

“Shogun” will compete in the drama series category once morest, among others, an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s science fiction book “The Three-Body Problem”, another installment in the fate of the residents of Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street “The Crown” and the history of American breakfast television “The Morning Show”.

Among limited series, nominations were received by: “Reindeer Man,” “Ripley,” “Night Country,” “Fargo” and “The Chemistry Lessons.”

Among television stations and streaming platforms, Netflix is in the lead with a total of 107 Emmy nominations, followed by FX with 93 nominations, which is the most in the station’s history, HBO/Max with 91 and Apple TV+ with 70.

The winners of the Emmy Awards, the highest honors for television productions, will be announced on September 15.

The last Emmy Awards were held in January 2024. The ceremony was postponed due to strikes by Hollywood writers and actors.

The Emmy Awards are called the Oscars of television. The first gala took place on January 25, 1949. (PAP)
